Prepaid card for oldie - suggestions please

The oldie is deteriorating rapidly and now not managing money well. We've had a bit of an issue over Christmas about a mysteriously generous cheque that they can't remember writing and a huge credit card bill for slightly nebulous purchases.

They do however need to be able to pay for things in person as at the moment they are still getting out and about.

I think a pre-paid card is probably a good option as it will limit the mount of money they have access to - so hit me with your recommendations....

I'm going to have to take away their cheque book, debit card and existing credit cards. Which they will hate. What a great start to the year.

PS: yes, I'm getting the cheque from the bank to make sure it wasn't written fraudulently by the recipient but I'm pretty sure it will have been written by the oldie. Perhaps after a suggestion. Or it could all be totally innocent.

do you have poa?
if you don't you might be in legal murky waters.

no advice but a prepaid debit card sounds very sensible.

good luck.

Sorry that made me laugh 😁 I think we all go through phases of spamming this board depending on the current catastrophe load.

MoneySavingExpert has a few suggestions

Another alternative might be to speak to the credit card company to see if they will reduce the credit limit to whatever you’d put on the pre-paid card.

I have a Tesco pre paid card which gets used for specific things. It is very straightforward to use and top up etc. I recently got a letter that they had been taken over, I think it was Barclays? So will possibly change in future.

I think the post office do a pre paid debit card?
