Alarm for elderly relative

Hi
My mum asked me to post. She is trying to find an alarm for a relative. It would need to connect to family (rather than a third party) in the event of an emergency, be worn like a pendant and ideally would just have a set up fee rather than ongoing subscription. I have no idea if such a thing exists but wondering if anybody has any recommendations? Thank you!

I would ask age concern.

I looked at various options for my mother earlier this year and I think you'd struggle to get one that a) doesn't first connect to a third party to 'triage' the call and b) doesn;t have a monthly fee.

thinking outside the box a bit - my mother also has a small Doro mobile phone

and this has an 'assistance button' on the back which apparently when pressed will dial three pre-programmed numbers in turn until someone answers. It's probably small enough to wear in a pouch across the body or hanging down the front. Potential issues would of course be ensuring it is kept charged, topped up and has reliable network coverage.

(the 'proper' monitored personal pendant alarms work across multiple cell phone networks and only need to be charged around once a month, so are much more reliable than a normal mobiel phone).

We have a community alarm for my wife. If she presses the call button the person who answers first calls my mobile and if I don't answer or say I am a distance away they will send their staff. If I am available that is the end of it.
It costs about £75 per year.

Looks like there us a?WiFi one.
Do they have WiFi in the home?

The issue is whether they have the capacity to understand and use it

My mum had the Doro phone and it was quite good. I got messages from the alarm button but never on purpose, I was happy to ha e those 'test' calls. If I remember rightly the notification from the call button kept beeping until you took notice but I might be wrong about that.

I got both my parents Doro phones. My mum loves hers but dad doesn't even take his with him if he goes anywhere 🙄 so am now looking at a monthly fee for a pendant. Not sure he'll wear that either! Stubborn thing he is.

Careline via Council. Small payment to send their own staff

We've just got a pendant one via the local authorities, Careline for father in law.

You can have it so that if pressed, it goes to the call centre who then notifies a nominated first responder or you can have it so they (the company) responds. Only snag is that it's limited to 200 yards from the house. It's about £6 a week for that but we need it for falls in and around the house.
