Carpet cleaner for poo stains

Hi all
Very sadly my 91 one year old dad had a fall at home this week and was not found for several hours. He is in hospital, amazingly didn't break anything, and we will see how the next few weeks develop. He is in a better state than we were thinking he might be but is very fragile.
Inevitably there was soiling of the carpet. I have had a professional carpet cleaner round but now it's dry there are still poo stains although much improved.
Can anyone recommend an enzyme based cleaner that I can buy to try and improve the carpet further.

Thank you

My cat has chronic pancreatitis and vomits on my carpet a lot... I can recommend Dr Beckmann Carpet Stain Remover which is sold in Tesco.

sommerjade · 07/12/2024 19:26

I've used it on old stains as well as new vomit.

wetotter · 07/12/2024 19:27

You'll need to patch test before using.
But the ones that spring to mind are the those sold for cleaning up after pets try Dr Beckmann.

Napisan is a possibility, but might may well fail patch test

amoreoamicizia · 07/12/2024 19:28

Napisan is bleach.

Biological washing liquid in warm water, and a gentle scrubbing brush? It's got pet stains out of my carpets.

I agree with washing powder as a first approach. If it doesn’t work, this is the dr Beckmann

Honestly, nothing, although that may depend on what the carpet is made of. I had professionals out to MIL’s home for similar. Cleaner basically said they can sanitise but the stains remain.

After several attempts, we replaced the carpet. It was a bedroom carpet and man made fibres.

Bear in mind that just about anything you put on the carpet (washing power, dish soap, etc) is going to leave it sticky, and this will attract new dirt. As per PP says, often replacement is all you can do in this situation. I knew someone who claimed on their insurance, due to the nature of their illness & the mess it made of several carpets.

This. It's brilliant

RubyRedBow · 07/12/2024 23:47

You can bleach most carpets but I agree that Df Beckmann is good. It’s under £3 in b&m

Thank you everyone for your replies. I realise it's not going to look perfect but the professional guy did a reasonable job and for the price of a bottle of stuff and a couple of half hours of my time, I'll see if I can improve it! To be honest I don't know if my dad will ever be able to live at home again which is incredibly sad.

You need an enzyme cleaner - they are designed to break down the proteins in stains from bodily fluids and take care of odours too. They can be found in pet shops for cleaning up after messy pets, but work equally as well on human output (!) Simple Solution is a common brand and you will find them on Amazon too. Good luck with everything.

Napisan is bleach.

Some carpets are bleach cleanable (mine are, and I've put it to the test)

A steam cleaner got rid of poo stains and smell from when our elderly dog had diarrhea on our cream carpet overnight which we found in the morning. We cleaned it then sprayed with copious amounts of germclear. Then used the steam cleaner on the stains left, it got them out completely and any remaining smell. You the nozzle at an angle pointing at the mark and then have a cloth to catch any wet that comes up. It was just a cheap steamer from amazon.

@TesterPotQueen I'm so sorry about your dad, it's so hard 😔 I'm wishing you all the best for your remaining time with him Flowers

TesterPotQueen · 08/12/2024 13:28

Thanks @TheSkyRaisin , he's been SO stubborn and difficult these last few years, I have recently been dreading our interactions but it's awful to witness the diminishment, if that's a word, of your parent.
I'm getting armed with enzyme cleaner as a first try. Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply.

You can buy pet cleaners with special enzymes for getting rid of urine and poo. I'm sure they would work.

GrumpyPanda · 08/12/2024 13:52

Had similar incontinence issues with my mum but on an all-natural Persian style carpet. What did the trick was ultra-gentle dabbing (not rubbing!) with a cloth soaked in a Woolite solution, then soda water poured on top to bring detergent and dirt up out of the fibers. Sounds like that might be what pp were achieving with their steam cleaners?
