Hello

I posted before about my mum and brain injury and got so much wonderful help.

Since I posted before, mum has turned 70, and was discharged to a nursing home however became ill and is now back in hospital.

She barely communicates and is struggling to eat and drink. I was up to-day at dinner time and fed her but she was very fatigued and dropping off during the meal so we had to stop.

It's so hard because she is deteriorating but still hanging in there with next to no quality of life.

I don't really know why I'm posting. Everything is just so uncertain and strange.

Your poor mother OP. The paralysis is permanent I take it. It sounds as if she has very little quality of life and she is not that old either. It is a very stressful time for you all. All you can do is talk to her I suppose, which will be of some comfort to her, even if she can't communicate herself. Is she is a side room at the hospital or a ward? It sounds as if she has little awareness of her surroundings which is something to be thankful for, I guess.Flowers

Why exactly is your mum in hospital? What treatment/tests are they carrying out?

Thank you. Yes, the paralysis seems to be permanent.

Very little awareness of surroundings now. She used to be much more vibrant, communicative and aware, now just seems like a shell.

She was on IV antibiotics and fluids. Assessed by SLT for swallow. Pressure sore on her heel. I expect her to be discharged back to the nursing home soon but we are told nothing.
