Help with mum. Dementia and where to live ?

Hi, any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated. My mum is late 70's and clearly has dementia. She is getting worse fairly quickly but lives in her own home quite happily and is physically fine (for her age). Whilst she is ok at the moment to drive and look after herself
I am just trying to think what would be best in the long term re housing in particular. I feel that in another year or two her current house wouldn't be so suitable. She has a 4bed 1 bath in a nice location but I think it will become a bit much and the bathroom would need work to make it more suitable as she gets older (walk in shower etc). I had wondered about building a 1 bed granny flat in our garden but she would need to fun it with her house sale. And I think that as she has dementia it may not work long term (her mum lived till over 100) so could be considered deprivation of assets and we wouldn't be able to afford to pay it back without selling. So probably a non-starter but it would keep her independent but not lonely. But if that isn't an option then what do you do? I'm just really struggling with it at the moment and would like to have an idea of options. Thanks

A lot of retirement villages/ assisted living set ups won't take people with dementia.

A friend of my Mums had this.

She was in assisted living and they refused to take her back after an accident and a hospital spell. She'd moved for help and found herself entirely at the control of the management.

She then moved into a home and had to sell the flat which was another nightmare for the family.

Dementia and elderly illnesses are unpredictable.

Skirting a diagnosis? Have you ever tried to get a dementia diagnosis for a loved one? It’s the NHS that skirt it!

Yes, MIL has Alzheimer’s.

My Dad was diagnosed in May after a few months of various assessments. We first flagged it in January.

Mixed dementia - predominantly Vascular, partly Alzheimers

We sold my mums car and sent back her licence after her diagnosis . She went mad but I couldn't have it on my conscience that she was driving with a diagnosis that made her reactions slow

The dvla gave no fucks when I called them and she even tried to get her licence back by writing to them which I had to speak to them about and they said they would give it back . Luckily she didn't follow it through but jeez ! 🙄

@kaos2 who signed the V5 for the transfer, if you sold it without the knowledge of the registered keeper?

We have Poa . I expect I signed it , I can't actually remember tbh. If we hadn't of got rid of it she would have got back in it !

Even the consultant said the family need to deal with it and stop her ! 🙄
