My grandmother has just been admitted to hospital after being ill for around a week with sickness and dizziness. The hospital found that she was actually ok apart from dehydrated and she had been losing weight she also the start of some pressure sores on her neck plus a potential ear infection which was causing vertigo. They gave her fluids, some food she would eat and she has perked up already. They want to do an endoscopy but since the did a beside assement which shows she lacks capacity (she has no idea where she is etc) the have applied for a depravation of liberty order.
The home she is is seem to not be giving ber enough care as she is in and out of hospital with falls, dehydration every couple of months now. The hospital advised us to say that we are not happy with the care and that we would like a higher level of care - but we have been saying that to the care home and council for the last year with no effect as if you talk to my grandmother she can sound quite with it until you ask her a question and it all falls apart. She doesnt remember her husband of 30 years who died a while ago sue thinks she lives in a house she hasnt lives at for 20 years etc. and she cant remember things which happened even a few minutes ago.
she wont leave her bed of her own accord and thats the problem really she only gets out of bed and gets dressed if i go in and i just cant do that every day.
will the capacity test etc have any effect on the level of care she is entitled to? Is this a step in the right direction?
