My Dad and DIY

My dad is 94.

Recently he has implemented extra long handles on the toilets and mum's stairlift as her wrists/grip couldn't provide sufficient force.
He has just made a wooden plinth for mum's chair to raise it up by 3-4 inches to make it easier for her to get in and out of. He rigged up a system of poles and ropes to lift chair so we could get it onto the plinth.

He is amazing.

Scattered across the house are bits of furniture he has made over the years, tables, foot stools, display cabinets, bookcases, ...

Had to tell him 5 times what time we were going out this morning though!

I hope I am like him when I am 94 (that is only 17 years away)

In his 70s, he designed and built a 2 berth motor boat that they had on the Thames.

It is one main reason why we want to facilitate them being in their own home for as long as possible: he would be lost without his workshop.

Mum does all the paperwork. She had a hip replacement earlier this year following a fall. We knew she was OK when 2 days later she asked about the Bank of England interest rates!
