Nursing home lockdown policy

I think my Dad’s nursing home might be on the cusp of a Covid outbreak, does anyone have recent experience of a lockdown situation? I’m curious to know what procedures other nursing/care homes have followed. Thank you!

Basically lockdowns are a thing of the past in care homes and now even in outbreaks residents should still be allowed visitors. Google "management of acute respiratory infection outbreaks in care homes guidance". This covers COVID outbreaks. Essentially however the guidance says that visitors are critical to residents wellbeing. There may be PPE guidance / where visits take place which is determined by the care home but visitors should still be allowed. Hope this helps.

If there are Covid, or other infectious illnesses, in my DF's nursing home, the ill resident is confined to their room and visitors encouraged to use PPE.

The home my mum was in (she died in July) didn't even test for Covid. When they had an outbreak of D & V the affected residents were confined to their rooms. Although as a family we chose not to visit when we had Covid we were still able to visit if we wanted to.

There were warning signs on the door when dad's care home had norovirus earlier this year. I'd driven over a visit and chose not to enter (as I was flying the next day) but I know others visited with precautions. Affected residents were kept in their rooms.

If I had Covid, flu or even a heavy cold I wouldn't' visit.

At my sisters care home, they still lockdown during a norovirus outbreak, no visitors at all. All the residents have dementia so confining them to their rooms is difficult but I’m not sure why visitors are not allowed unless it is to protect us?

Recently, the lockdown lasted over two weeks which I found quite upsetting, my sister having hospice care as she also has cancer so I like to visit every day. I know that if she was at end of life I would be allowed to go and sit with her for the final few hours and would wear protective clothing etc to walk through the building but could take the mask off when in her room.

I think this is common practice in many nursing homes near me.
