Hi all! DM is slowly settling in to care home however a small fire broke out last week and she was moved to another care home. On her return, a number of items have gone missing, waiting to see if they are still at other place but if not can I claim on their insurance? don’t mind a few things going missing but it’s all of this:

Missing items
Pyjamas x 5
Slippers x 1
Tops x 3
Jumper x 3
jogging suit x 1
Trousers x 2
Trainers x 1
Shoes x 1
Suitcase x 1
Coverless duvet x 1
Remote control x 1

All labelled

Have you spoken to either carehome? That sounds to me like the clothes that were packed to take with her which are likely in the other homes laundry system.

My experience of MIL’s care home was that anything not nailed down, went missing. She was on a dementia ward and as well as the usual laundry mix-ups , lots of little personal things, toiletries etc disappeared. Despite the labels. The staff just shrugged their shoulders. ( It amazes me that even the poshest, private homes screw up the laundry so often. I mean hotels can keeps track ).

It does sound rather as if everything may be in-transit between the two homes. Suggest you email the original home, listing the items and ask them to explain. Thereafter, ask for reimbursement .

Hotels have more staff and don't have to wash, dress and spoon feed their residents. Care home staff have a very responsible job for very little money and deserve respect for the hard work they do. Op, I suspect there is a bag somewhere in one of the homes with all of your mother's possessions in it for safekeeping.

Hi,

Spoke to both and they are checking laundry. Just seems bizarre that her own care home didn't realise she returned with no belongings and the temporary one sent her back with nothing.

Thank you. I have emailed them and I take her laundry home.

I understand a few items going missing but not her entire wardrobe and brand new bedding. At £1500 a week I expect a little more accountability and she deserves the dignity of not wearing someone else's pyjamas and underwear.

That is what I am hoping!

The fact that the suitcase went missing makes me think that they are somewhere waiting to be collected or the entire suitcase as t with another patient. I would ask the home for more info.
