Day centre costs

My parent has been invited to attend a day centre hosted by the care agency who come into her home. This would be great as they have previously refused to attend an equivalent organised by a charity so I am keen to encourage it.

what I’d like to know is how much do these day centres normally cost? My parent has mobility problems and needs some assistance but no dementia or significant care issues that would need 1:1 assistance. The day is planned for five hours including a hot meal, entertainment etc. The sample session is £60 and regular sessions £80. It’s at a venue that will be able to provide suitable devices and equipment if that makes a difference. My parent couldn’t cope with a church hall or equivalent for that period of time.

any info appreciated!

I think I paid about £20 for a Saturday for mil.
T this included a bath and hair wash.

This will be subsidised by a charity or other initiative.

If you're paying the full cost from a private provider without any other agency carrying part of the cost then £80 is completely realistic for a full day in a well equipped setting including experienced employed carers (not well meaning volunteers) and a cooked meal.

Obviously it's worth looking into whether there's any help available with the cost from anywhere if it's not affordable for your mother.

Thanks @Whale80ne good to hear that it is inline with other providers. They qualify for the full rate of AA which doesn’t cover all the care costs but it goes a long way. I have my fingers crossed the group goes well as they don’t see anyone other than me and they have refused other offers from charities - this was a while ago and I can’t remember the cost. Definitely more than 20 but less than 80 plus food extra. The care worker has done the persuasion here which I am very glad about. They’re not on a commission or anything btw, they are a fantastic worker.

My stepdad goes to 2. One I think is about £10. That includes transport and lunch but it's just a general social group for older people, no care provided.

The other is a specialist dementia group with a couple of trained staff running activties with some volunteer assistants. Not a dedicated setting and no.personal care. That's about £40 including lunch.

Its 60 a day where ( but for dementia)we live but they take their own packed lunch
