Driving license renewal when already given up driving

Hi all! My 87 year old mum has stopped driving and sold her car, not planning on driving again. She has just received a letter from DVLA asking her to renew her license. Does anyone know do I actually have to respond to this or can I just ignore as she’s not going to be driving again….? I thought the DVLA website would tell me but for the life of me I can’t seem to find anything on this subject…..! Anyone had to deal with this for their Mum/Dad…? Thanks

I'd just finish the license off by following their process to surrender her license, then she doesn't even have the expired one

If she's not going to drive again and hasn't got a passport. it might be worth renewing to use as an identity card. Provided she doesn't have to lie to do it.

It can be useful to hold onto the licence for ID - but if you have alternative ID, there’s a one page form:
www.gov.uk/government/publications/declaration-of-voluntary-surrender

@MereDintofPandiculation I should have credited you with that wisdom, I’m sure it was you who said remember ID!
