Grip socks to prevent slipping

My mum, nearly 80, slipped on the floor of her flat yesterday. Was thinking she should get socks/slippers that grip to stop her slipping and sliding on wooden floor. Has anyone got any recommendations? Thanks so much

What did she have on her feet at the time?

Fall prevention socks are a thing OP and probably a good idea if your mum will wear them. On the hospital ward DF had red ones, medline I think. DF wouldn’t wear them at home though.

A lot of kids are wearing grip socks now for football, I'd look at them- I get my kids ones off shein. They go up to a big shoe size too

My elderly parent refused to wear them but I insisted. I was really really firm. Yes, you cannot force them but I bullied my Mum into them because to be honest. When she fell it would be ME the authorities called regardless of what I was about to do i.e just about to go on holiday, to a school play, the theatre, out to dinner.

I am sorry to sound harsh but I am sick of elderly people making daft stupid decisions and expecting others to suffer the consequences.

Ong tell me about it, I'm picking up the pieces of some really stupid decisions made by my mother at the moment.

Mrs - I thought someone was going to have a go at me for being so mean and saying what the elderly are allowed to do if they have capacity is up to them.

Thank you. My Mum didnt really argue with me. That would have been much easier. She just didnt do something, I guess sometimes it worked out for her and I would never know she was up to mschief. Other times I got the 'call' to come and resolve. In the end I had to literally threaten her and quite honestly it did work and she knew if she messed me around it wouldnt go well for her.

Falls are the things that get our elderly folks - the hospitals are full of people who have fallen. Maybe they tripped or maybe they wouldnt use their walking aids and felt they knew best. Until they didnt.

And for those who say they should be allowed to do whatever they like.. I assume that they have never been in this situation.

I quite agree and the stress I am finding is just exhausting!

M&S ones are good

Decent slippers with Velcro fastening are much better. Socks with grip that are tight enough to stay on their feet properly are very hard to get on and provide no support either

My Mum used grip socks in rehab for a few weeks, good enough for them, good enough for me.
We ended up getting some extra extra wide shoes online from Chums which are excellent support, velcro fastening and comfortable for her.
