I live 450 miles away from my elderly person. I try to visit monthly.

I've spent quite a lot of time and energy over the past few weeks trying to get roofers out to quote for the repair needed at my elderly relatives house. It's not easy doing it from a distance.

Finally decided we should just accept the only one we actually had.

Elderly relative has now revealed that THEY got a quote way back in April.... and of course it's better than the ones I got.

This was on top of the discovery when i arrived in person that they had been switched to digital voice by BT just after my last visit (late May) rendering their home phone and personal care alarm non-functional.

i mean. WHY THE FUCK would I need to know that.

Anyway, it's all good evidence that they need a bit of input.

On the upside they've got their attendance allowance so I'm employing someone to go in weekly to help (spy).

There's a service locally to me called We care home improvements and they help people to get big jobs done such as a roof done by a contractor.

I don't know if that helps in any way.

Our local council have a list of contractors they compile for elderly/vulnerable people. It’s always worth asking.

the issue with quotes is just standard at the moment. More work than available contractors.

i suspect my aunt comes across as hard work too. She loves to ask a pointless question.

I’ve got the approved tradesman list but would rather use the recommendations I get via my network (I moved away and have lots of friends in the area I can ask!)
