Hello, hopefully someone can answer this question for me. I care for my elderly dad on a very part-time basis. I take him out to do his shopping and lots of trips in the car. I'm registered as a carer for him with my local carer centre and he is in receipt of attendance allowance. He is not registers as disabled and can get around with a walker with short distances. I'm just wondering if I can apply for a blue badge to use when I'm with him so that we can park in disabled parking bays near shops, etc .

He'll need to apply in his own name

Hi @rubyslipperss I’ve just had to reapply for my dad’s badge. The requirements vary by council, but the process for me was straightforward enough. You should apply in his name - it’s his badge to use when out with you.

The fact your dad has attendance allowance might be enough evidence in support. I also submitted prescriptions and a letter from the GP confirming his diagnosis. You have to say what kind of mobility difficulties your dad has and if he uses aids. They also need a photo of him and ID docs.

There's nothing to lose in applying. You don’t pay the £10 unless it’s successful.

I'd definitely apply for him. You can usually do it online.

Yes go for it. Should be pretty straightforward

I applied on behalf of my father recently. It was very straight forward, we had a telephone appointment to verify his disability, took at most 15 mins. Blue badge sent in post within 7 days. Definitely made a big difference for him.

Ok thanks for your replies - I'll apply for him as he's 90 and finds form filling online difficult- thanks

I've just completed one for my Dad. His dementia has seen him in A and E for falls twice in 10 days as its affected his balance. He needs supervision when hes out now to keep him safe. He's on attendance allowance. He walks but staggers. I hadn't thought about the extra space but he does struggle to get out of the car in an ordinary space - the extra door opening room will be very useful.

He was quickly approved.

However we had all his recent falls, memory assessment and diagnosis to hand plus the A and E ambulance visits following his falls when unsupervised. And the AA approval.

Good luck those applying. It'll make so much difference for Dad.

I applied on behalf of my mum 4 weeks ago.
They then asked for more proof, which I got from the gp's secretary. Still waiting. I think I read on the Bucks website 12 weeks.

No harm in applying but the blue badge application will need to be in his name and will belong to him. Supplement application with as much evidence as possible at the first time of doing.

TeenDivided · 16/05/2024 15:38

Approval has just come through for my mum's. 🙂

@TeenDivided

Well done.

I think they want some independent proof that's all. As I say, we luckily had it to hand in the form.of doctors letters. Plus AA had recently been given a lot of independent evidence for assessment.

Once they have the proof them seem to be quite timely.

TeenDivided · 16/05/2024 17:46

Our email said up to 10 days to arrive.
We were delayed as mum wasn't signed up to nhs app so getting evidence was harder.

Feelingstrange2 · 16/05/2024 18:44

Yes, we are at the same point. Paid an Admin fee and now wait for it to be, presumably, printed and posted.
