My DF has had a nervous breakdown after many years of looking after my DM who has both physical disabilities and dementia. He is in his early 70s.

It has been very difficult to help them as he has refused all offers of support until very recently when he allowed me to get carers in, and has refused to compromise their previous lifestyle - massive house, garden, multiple cars, dog etc.

Unfortunately the help I've now organised has come too late and he has mentally collapsed - in bed most of time, not eating, monosyllabic if he speaks at all, with bouts of mania / hysteria. Mum is safe as looked after by carers - although this is all clearly a massive stressor for her. I've been struggling to get help for him as GP is useless and NHS MH team say he is not serious enough to section. He will not take anti depressants.

We can afford to send him somewhere privately to get some treatment and a proper rest, but I have no idea where to start. The only place I know by name is the Priory group, but I know they've had some bad press of late. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I'm a single mum with a disabled toddler and live 4 hours away from my parents. I'm doing my best to be help them but it's not enough.

We used Priory for someone at work a while back. They thought they were very good. I have no idea for someone over working age though.

I suspect it's one of those things that varies between places and it's the bad stories that get to the press. Have you had a look to see what they offer in that area?
