Finding a carer

A company is coming to do an assessment for my mother. She is reasonably mobile and does not need personal care or meals prepared. She is generally overwhelmed by keeping on top of the house but needs more than a cleaner. What sort of tasks are covered by “light housework” and what questions should I ask at the assessment.

Things like changing the sheets on the bed, hanging out/bringing in the sheets in nice weather, running the hoover round. Mopping the floor. Taking out the recycling/bins, ironing

Also checking dates on food in fridge each time they visit.

Making a list of items that need replacing such as loo rolls?

My mother had that type of care when she was first diagnosed with dementia. I used Home Instead and they called it 'companion care'. During the assessment they will suggest things they could do, for my mother they did washing up, laundry, hoovering, and took her shopping to Sainsburys. As her needs increased, they increased what they did. They did everything which needed doing, that she was unable to do.

Its around light laundry, washing up dishes, vacuum. I found this helpful https://caringpulse.co.uk/the-essential-role-of-light-housework-in-caregiving/
