Hi ...ok I know it is going to be depent on different councils and things ..

But how long did it take anyone from 1st initial assessment where they(OT/Adult SS) recommend it.?

Are we really looking at 6 months plus before even a surveyor comes around?

Can't get a proper time line from anyone .

Thanks

Ok so in my South East borough you are looking at a 4 month wait to see an OT and then another 4/5 month wait for the Grants Team to do their bit before the work can start. It's really long at the moment due to a lack of OT's and loads of people being referred.

Thank you for replying.

The OT visit came through quite quickly and some adaptations have already been put in place.

Toilet seats
Extra grab rails
Bed rail
Walker
Perch stool...

So I definitely can't complain about that side of things !

It was just someone mentioned today ...it could be 6 plus months before even someone comes out to
plan it ...and then 4-6 months before work gets started..

That was a bit concerning.

Do you need a wet room or can you swap out bath for walk in shower in its place? My parents did it in a day depending on tiling.

MyGooseisTotallyLoose · 04/03/2024 19:31

Is it being fully funded by council? In our area the time scale above quoted is pretty right unfortunately.

Four weeks from OT for me ( West Yorkshire) but that was 10 years ago.
Stair lift took 5 days.

bizzey · 04/03/2024 19:53

Council funded .

She had a power assisted bath seat that OT organised to take out as they seemed it unsafe for her.

Now she is left with a sink and a stool ..

OT lady is good ..no complaints there .
And she is going to try and escalate it .

But I suppose everyone's hands are tied somewhere .

Not sure when the OT referral was as it's my DCousin but we sent the forms off mid December, they've had one site visit and then heard no more.

bizzey · 05/03/2024 15:24

@CadyEastman thank you for replying.
Were they for the initial OT assessment or the financial forms ?

Not sure when the OT assessment was done, might have been September?

The firms for the Council were sent back Mid December but it's not means tested where they live as it's under £7k

I had an OT assessment on 9th may 25 and my council sent me an email a week later explaining the prossess and said for C1 cases ( urgent ) the time frame is around 4 weeks to send a savayor out for a non urgent case C2 its 6 months then around 1 year to start the works...in my case the savayor rang me today and they are attending next tuseday so the works will probly start a week later my case is urgent and i cannot accsess my bathroom to bath even with a bath seat outher people in my home 2 have skin problems and need to soak in a bath so the wetroom will be on the ground floor ie extention built on back of house on 2 joinging walls one is next doors wall to there extention wich ive already got written permisstion to build on the wall..so no leagil form needs to be provided befor the works can start my council are pritty prompt they dont hang about ive had outher adaptations done in the past and from OT assessment from works starting and complieted has been 12 weeks

Round our way they quote a year but I’m not sure whether that’s first contact or a year until it’s completed.

DarkLion · 17/06/2025 22:21

Different as my sister isn’t elderly, she’s in her 20s but I care for her and we recently managed to get a bigger house with adapted wetroom and on exchange of keys I was told I was very lucky as current turnaround to get a wetroom installed is 2 years with my council and I’m in Yorkshire

Shazwaz65 · 26/06/2025 10:07

Ive latr found out that the OT has deemed my case to be non urgent wich i have now challenged as i struggle to accsess my bathroom safely and have already had a fall and injuerd myself wich ive sent photosto adaptations team..im unable to move out as im a dv suvivor and have safety meshures installed into my home via sanctry and have a life long restraining order inplace so moveing is not an opption..my council are assessing my concerns to deside wether to mark my case as a C1 urgent from a C2 non urgent..im a quaulified nurse/ OT so god knows were this OT got her degree from ppls safety/ highgine and indrpendence should be parramount so far its been quick with the visits from OT to savayor now waiting for a contractor hopefuly they will call me soon thankyou to everyone who replyed i appriciate it

We are in LB Camden. I think the whole process was about six months, maybe a bit more.
