It's getting really difficult to wash DMum's hair, so I am thinking of giving these a try.

I was wondering if anyone here has used them, and if there are preferred brands. Are there different types, or are they much of a muchness?

We used them with our auntie. Can’t remember the brand - probably something from the careco or a place like that. They were really very good and indeed had my sister use one on me after an operation

Not sure what brand (they are in pink sachets) but the ones I’ve used on my mum work amazingly well! She also enjoys the head massage aspect of it. I have no idea how they can clean hair without rinsing but give them a try, they’re great

Yes, have used these and they work very well. You do need to microwave them as they are very cold. Bought online from a disability website. Brilliant idea.

I was given some in hospital while on a pump. I would say they refreshed my hair but didn’t clean it as such. My scalp itched a day later. Would probably have been as well with dry shampoo.
That said, I have a lot of hair. My MIL, very elderly, thin hair, found them very soothing.

Thank you!!

I've ordered some (Amazon) in the most pink packaging they had!

DMum has very fine hair remaining, so hoping for the soothing effect.

They don't. Over time, they won't do much and might cause irritation. They can be good for a short-term freshen up, if the person doesn't find them irritating.

You can get these special hairwashing things for use in bed, and some hairdressers, carers, and hospice-at-home providers are used to using them. That might be a better route long term? You probably wouldn't need to do more than once a week or even fortnight, as senior's hair is often quite thin and scalp not producing much oil, so if she's not exerting herself or otherwise getting sweaty or dirty, her hair won't get dirty very quickly.

How are you doing the rest of her washing? Is is not possible to shower her hair at the same time as showering or bathing her?

I do hope that she enjoys the present solution that you have ordered, and finds it a nice experience, at least while you find a longer term one.

Have a look for waterless shampoo, I know boots sell it, works really well

Thank you all

She liked it, and her hair looked nice afterwards, and she hasn't said that she's itchy. So it's all good from here, and we'll stick with them for now

(but I will look for waterless shampoo next time I'm in a Boots)
