Care home fees for 29th February

My parents are both in a care home. The company operating the care home are asking for an additional day's fee for 29th February as they bill on a 365 day cycle.

The care home contract states the calculation of fee based on 365 days, but doesn't specifically state that the 29th February each leap year would be charged as an additional day.

Does anyone know if an additional charge for 29th February by care homes is usual in a leap year?

If you have a parent or relative in a care home, are they charging extra for 29th February?

Many thanks

Ours used to charge by the day, so the bills for 31 day months were always higher than Feb/June etc.

They state it is based on 365 days.
This year is 366 days.
Do they actually need to state they will charge more isn't it obvious.

If you want them to house, feed and look after your relatives then it needs paying for.

That makes sense. I'd expect care to be a daily charge, albeit invoiced on a period basis, and hence 29 days for a February in a leap year.

Our fees are charged on a daily basis, so the bill is higher in July than June. But they then work out a monthly standing order amount, presumably this year it’s 366/12 of the daily amount, not 365/12. It means in 31day months the bill is higher than the monthly payment, and in February it’s lower.

But yes, I will most definitely have to pay for Feb 29th

My mum's home charges in 4 week periods - so 13 bills a year.

Ah - I can imagine a home which had 13 identical bills might need to explicitly ask for extra payment for 29th.

My nan's is charged by the month, but at a day rate.

So the bill states the billing period, eg 1-29th feb. 29 days. Week cost £x. Total cost £X

I've backwards calculated before, week cost divided by 7 times the number of days and it tallies up.

I don't see anything like s Care Home giving s free day away because us a leap year... it's a business at the end of the day
