Hello, sorry this not about a parent but a relative of mine with PD who is quite elderly. He has been in hospital and we are going to visit next week. I wanted to take him a little treat and was hoping for some advice.

Would something like luxury fudge be OK? He is eating quite well but I don't want to give him pastries or cake if the texture is wrong. So grateful for any advice!

I’d take something like an egg custard instead.

My mum can't tolerate pastry with Parkinson's but she enjoys the GU pots of mousse (not chocolate as she can't stomach that either). Or a set custard.

Brilliant, thanks both, will bear egg custard in mind!

My grandad had parkinsons and fudge was one of his absolute favourites. Anything sweet actually!

Oh good, adding fudge to the list! Relative is my older brother, and he used to be famed for his love of sugar sandwiches when young....of course he's never had a filling in his life ;-)

Depends very much on stage. My dad had no swallowing difficulties until very late on. Until then the only food restrictions were from the tremor - peas were a disaster, sandwiches needed a filling that didn't fall out easily (his care home regularly made grated cheese sandwiches, without anything like mayo to stick them together, despite repeated reminders).

Soft and light are good - fudge sounds delicious!

Thanks both. Yes I don't want to give him something difficult to manage. Fudge it is, and some spring bulbs in a pot for a bit of the outdoors.
