Has anyone done this? I want to arrange one for my DCousin who will has r been married for 60 yeasts in April. They don't have any DC (which is possibly why they've lasted this long) and nobody else really bothers with them.

Does anyone have any tips on the telegram or how to make their anniversary more special?

We did this for my PILs a couple of years ago

We got a copy of their wedding certificate and completed the form.

The telegram arrived a couple of days before the actual day. I remember it well as MIL had put it on her 'to do' list so we had to own up that we were going to do it.

You can apply for a card from Buckingham Palace for a sixtieth wedding anniversary, you do it online, but will need a copy of their marriage certificate. My parents loved it. I think you can apply about 6 weeks in advance and it's free.

Telegrams disappeared in 1982.

Queen and now Charles replaced them by cards. I’ve no idea about the 60th wedding anniversary ones, but the 100th birthday ones are special. Envelope with a royal coat of arms about the size of a saucer, lots of ribbon and fancy calligraphy. I was on tenterhooks willing the Queen to keep going till my Dad’s birthday, because he was never a fan of Prince Charles. She let us down, but he was delighted with the card anyway. Probably thought Charles and Camilla sat down and signed it personally (it is a realistic facsimile).

You have to apply (as above) for the anniversary one, but the 100th birthday one comes automatically if you are on a state pension.

I did it for my ILs about 4 years ago. I definitely didn't have their marriage certificate, I'm pretty sure I did it over the phone, it was quite straightforward. I gave the date and church they married at

Thank you everyone. Next in the list is getting them into the local paper Wink

In my local authority area, the local Councillor and/or Provost delivers a card and a basket of flowers to couples who're celebrating big anniversaries (which I personally think is a bit odd and a waste of money, but hey!) so might be worth asking if they do that in your DCousin's area too. I'm pretty sure the Council also arrange for a photographer and for pic in local paper.

Thank you seeing. I have a dim recollection of the Lord Mayor visiting my DGPs on their Diamond Wedding Anniversay. I had forgotten all about that.

@PinkMimosa you can get cream teas delivered to their home sometimes with vintage china. Also you can buy cakes that look like a bouquet of flowers for a special birthday.

Oh yes, we arranged a card from the Queen for my parents 60th. It was so special. My brothers and I are already fighting over who will get it when our folks are no longer with us.
It was the first thing my mum said, which of you 4 will get this when we are gone with great glee 🤣

I arrange this for my wonderful late Aunt & Uncle, as longer as you can supply details of the marriage, you can look this up on Freebmd website. You will receive a letter from Buckingham Palace as the informant, with a telephone number to call if anything changes. The card will be delivered by RM special delivery in the morning of the special day, when my Aunt and Uncle’s card was delivered, the postman said to them, this really is Royal Mail! My Aunt was delighted, and told me about it, but said I don’t know who let them know, I said I do it was me. Made their day extra special.
