Apparently... It is quite common for people to become confused after an operation and anaesthetic.

Currently experiencing this with DM. How long will it past? Will she be the same again?

Did she have a full GA or just sedation? Is there any chance she could have a urinary infection? They can commonly cause confusion in older people and can be caused by catheter insertion.

If it’s post surgery delirium it normally resolves within a week but can last weeks even months

It’s post-operative confusion, rather than post-anaesthetic and is a result of a combination of things (which may include but isn’t usually solely related to the mode of anaesthetic).

Recovery is typical but it depends to some extent on what the person was like pre-op, what the surgery was etc. Occasionally though surgery unmasks a brain that was really struggling but just about coping and a recovery to pre-op function doesn’t happen. The team looking after your mum will be in a much better position to advise about what sort of recovery to expect.
