Fractured pelvis

My 89 y/o MIL has fallen and fractured her pelvis on both sides. Does anyone know what happens next? She is so stubborn about us moving her bed downstairs, a stairlift or converting her downstairs bathroom to a wet room. We live 1.5 hours away at least.

I would appreciate anyone's experience of this.

My husband is down there now but has to be back at work on Monday so she won't have anyone with her. No dementia - sharp as a tack, just body failing her.

Can't sleep worrying about her.

my mom fractured her pelvis in two spots not long ago. despite the two fractures it was considered "stable". she was discharged from the hospital after a two night stay with a (very poorly measured) walker.
now my mom has mild dementia and quickly "forgot" why she was sore and why it was taking her longer than usual to get to the phone.
within a matter of weeks she was back to a more normal level of activity, although at 91 we are noticing a small decline in physical ability every 3-6 months. her confidence seems a bit shaken from the incidence.

Can you book her into respite/convalesce care for a couple of weeks. Will give you peace of mind that she's safe and give her a bit more time to recover.

edited to say - obviously if she's in agreement.

Is she in hospital at the moment?

My Nan recently broke her pelvis. She has dementia so is already in a care home but they had to hoist her onto the toilet, into bed etc as it was too painful for her and she couldn’t walk for a little while. She’s a few weeks on now and can get up etc on her own and the hoists are no longer needed. She may need some carers for a few weeks while it’s still fresh.
