Best/cheapest way to remove a stairlift

Thought this might be the best topic, apologies if I'm wrong

DC is moving into a house with a stairlift they would rather it wasn't there

Is it DIY removable? Will it cost a fortune to make good?

Where's a good place to start?

We moved into a house that had a stairlift this year, DH removed it using a screw driver and a drill. Parts of it were pretty heavy, but he managed OK. We then sold it on eBay for £400 so some unexpected money too.

We sold my mum’s on eBay with “ buyer to remove “ and they did and paid money too

You can hardly tell there was even a stair lift there, it's only on the first floor, there are 4 small holes in the floor where the rail was bolted down, apart from that all good in terms of cosmetics.

Ooo that sounds good

I was concerned about the we buy any stairlift type companies but ebay is fab

Stairlift companies will buy back a stairlift less than 3 years old, or will charge you to remove. Ours quoted £150 to remove. Ours was bespoke, with rail curved in two directions, so selling not an option. So DH removed it and took it to tip.

I sold my late parents' one to one of the 'we buy stairlifts' companies; I got about £200 quid for it, which I thought was not bad as it was five or six years old.

It seemed easier to me to deal with a company and someone who knew what they were doing when dismantling it than try to sell it to some random person on eBay.

Just to add - the company that made the stairlift would not buy it back from me and would have charged for removal.

Straight staircase you could sell on easily. Curved would be harder. Also reallt easy to remove with a screwdriver and drill. They're fitted to the stairs not the wall so if you recarpet you wouldn't be able to tell it was ever there.
