Could this be a stroke ?

Hi. I called the Dr for mum yesterday 92 as she is dizzy with, as she describes a fuzzy head. Now this is nothing new but has become worse. The Dr took some bloods and did her bp which was 204/100
During the night she has been doubly incontinent and is more confused than normal, and has blurred vision. She knows she’s not right, but is still coping with making herself a sandwich etc. Should I call the Dr out again ? Is there any point. I really don’t know what to do.

I’d suggest A&E or 111 if her vision has now gone blurred too. There isn’t anything the GP will be able to do.
Such a worry for you, I hope she will be okay.

Thank you. That’s what I thought too, but I’ve just spoken with her and she doesn’t want any fuss, or to go into hospital. It’s going to be a long weekend.

I'd ring 111. Better to be safe than sorry especially at her age.

Yes , blurred vision can be a sign of stroke. And if you have high blood pressure or diabetes that is a further risk. I would call 111 or even 999 as she has got some of the FAST symptoms. she may not want to go to hospital but if she is having a stroke then it’s much better to be seen as soon as possible. My friend had a stroke at 59 and was having blurred vision and confusion and dizziness. She didn’t want to go to hospital but then had a bigger stroke that night.

Transient ischaemic attack (TIA) - Symptoms

The symptoms of a transient ischaemic attack (TIA) are the same as those of a stroke, but unlike a stroke they only last for a few minutes or hours.

That BP is very high. What action was taken about that?

Limetreee · 25/08/2023 19:31

Hi thanks for your replies. The Dr said she’d consult with a colleague on how to manage her bp and they’d be in touch when the blood results are back sometime next week. Her bp is really difficult to manage as her standing bp is 100/ 60 it drops like a stone in seconds.

Visited mum today, and would say she’s 90% back to normal, argumentative and complaining again 🙄 she was a pussy cat the last two days. I’m going to mention it to the Dr next week. Thanks again.
