Discharge from hospital

My 90 year old Mum is currently in hospital and should be discharged in the next few days. Her mobility is awful though. Is she able to have some time in a community hospital to see if her walking can get better before we make any firm decisions?

She has over £23k of savings. Currently living in a retirement complex but not sure whether she will ever going back if she cannot improve her mobility.

Could anyone advise please?

Hi @Tracker1234 sorry about your dm.Hopefully your dm should be assessed by OT and PT who will make recommendations for her. Rehab may be available but, as there are not enough beds, patients need to be assessed as having rehab goals. Some patients are too good for rehab or unlikely to make progress, those who are normally mobile are more likely to be sent for rehab.
Have you phoned the ward to speak to the nurse in charge? They should know what is happening with regards to your dms discharge. If you are unable to get anywhere, ask to speak to the discharge coordinator.
Best of luck.

I am being told all sorts. Someone said she can be released with a care package but she would have to pay immediately. Someone else said a community hospital which tbh would be ideal before we make a final decision as to whether she moves into full time care which of course we will fund our selves.

Otherwise there is private respite care I guess. I don’t want to jump the gun if she can move back to retirement complex. She doesn’t want to go to care home but who does!
