Eviction from sheltered housing

My mum was on a 2 week trial in sheltered housing. The trial didn't work out as she needs staff attention at night and staff leave at 6.30pm and come back at 9am. So we are looking for a care home. They say she has to leave by Saturday (a week today) but I haven't managed to find her somewhere else that quickly. If I don't find a place by Saturday what will happen? What are her rights? Can they evict her?

Where was she living before the trial? Has a care assessment been done?

Are social services involved? Are they aware? Where was she before?

CC4712 · 15/07/2023 13:07

If it was a trial- surely there was a plan in place if the trial failed?

starlightmagic · 15/07/2023 13:09

Contact the local council and maybe social services they can advise and perhaps help speed things up for you

Was this a discharge from hospital? Where did she live 2 weeks ago?

Ilikewinter · 15/07/2023 13:26

Thats the million dollar question - where did she live before the trial?

ApolloandDaphne · 15/07/2023 13:32

Why don't you ask the sheltered housing people what will happen?

Moredramathanrazzamatazz · 15/07/2023 14:25

Yes get on to Adult Social Services ASAP, phone the usual number and they will have out of hours instructions; wouldn't leave this until Monday even if they don't call you back until Monday morning (when you should ring again if they haven't rung you by 10am).

It's not sheltered housing really is it, if it's only 9am-6.30pm?! Surely the riskiest times that might need a call buzzer answered would be going to bed and getting up and dressed? The mind boggles.

She was in another sheltered housing place in the same company but they shut down and suggested where she is now.

The back up plan was the place I said that has now fallen through. I didn’t have a back up plan for the back up plan. I am continuing to look the whole time but not having much luck.

You said it for a trial OP, so I assumed you meant she had a place to return to.

I'd speak to the sheltered accommodation company. Where did all the other residents go when they shut the previous place? Did it have round the clock support with overnight carers at the previous one?

I don't know the legalities I'm afraid, but wouldn't they have some duty of care to find somewhere with the same standard of care to the one they shut down? It must be very stressful for you all.

Any chance you could find a short term private carer to cover eg a 9pm visit?

hatgirl · 15/07/2023 17:14

Lots of people in sheltered housing have carers coming in as well in the eveni ga on top of the 9-5 background support?

Has this been tried/considered?

I'm surprised they have given notice just because she has evening care needs. Are there behaviour concerns as well?

Has she had a Care Act Assessment from adult social care?
