Super lightweight mobility scooters?

Do they really exist and can anyone make any recommendations? Or tell me where to begin?

I’d suggest less than 18kg and it needs to fit in a car boot - they have the Mazda that’s actually a Ford Ka in disguise. Quite the ask I suspect!

One of my parents is undergoing chemo and has a number of co-morbidities and whilst they are stubborn and determined to keep they are now finding their legs are letting them down.
They have tasked me with finding a super lightweight mobility scooter as they will not be able to lift it into the car boot and the other parent will have to do that.
The other parent is not capable of lifting too much. My smaller DC is 18kg and that’s the limit I’d say.

Thank you.

I've added my wheelchair to my Contents insurance for my house. It didn't cost very much, and it covers accidental damage to the chair as well as theft.

I haven't investigated whether it covers injury/cost caused to other people by me using the scooter, but perhaps I should.

Also, there are specialist scooter insurances available. You'll have to consider whether what they're offering is what is needed in this case. Some include a "get you home" service aimed at larger scooters which can't fold into a car, which you probably won't need.

I’ve got insurance sorted; a scooter specific policy, the company I ordered the scooter from recommended 3 different companies which was helpful.

I’ve also organised for my parents to go to a bike shop not too far from them where the owner is a good friends husband, with the scooter and he’s going to help them find a lock system that they can manage until they get the hang of finding places they can take the scooter and fold it down etc.

Sounds like you're totally on this! Hope this is the beginning of better things.

@PerkingFaintly thank you for all your advice and help; it’s greatly appreciated. I feel like I’m emerging from a week and half of total submersion into the world of mobility scooters today!
Eldest DC has made a personalised registration plate for the scooter which will very much appeal to my parents sense of humour and will be stuck on and displayed with great pride, so I’ve promised to get that laminated and posted up to them and then hopefully they’re on the up from there!
Onwards to the brave new world!
