Does anyone here support an elderly parent who has bipolar?

I’m just wondering about your experience in doing so and how you handle it.

I’ve name changed for this. I have had to step in and support DM in recent years with increasing struggles with bipolar and it’s having a major impact on her life and those around her. It’d be good to chat to anyone else in a similar boat.

Take a look at the forum on the outofthefog website. Loads on there

Not sure as no official diagnosis but fairly sure my StepF is BP.

It's very hard work. He's either full of the joys of spring, or in the depths of depression.
His life is complicated as he cares for my Mother who is declining in health, so he copes with a lot but he refuses to access whatever help is available and then spends most of his time angrily ranting to us about how their life has turned out.

@doodleZ1 , thank you! There is some really useful stuff on there about maintaining boundaries that I have started working through since you mentioned it. Thank you!

@TreeLine23 Thanks for your reply. That sounds very difficult when he concentrates on being angry rather than trying to access the help available. It’s hard enough without that!

I am really struggling with the associated anger during the current episode with my parents.

No problem I hoped it would be of use. I like it as it made me realise that other people had similar issues with their parents. It’s good to hear their stories and see how they dealt with it all.
