My Dad turns 80 soon. He's has dementia, it seems to be fairly slowly progressing, he can still read, walk, get outdoors etc but is very forgetful obviously. Any ideas for a present for his 80th birthday?

My local podiatrist does gift cards. Would he like having his nails cut etc?

What about a photo book with old pics in. I found it useful with my grandpa as it gave us something to talk about and the past is often more accessible than the present.

I would make him a favourite pudding with a few spare to go in the freezer.

This. Reminiscence is great for a lot of people with dementia. You can add non photo things too e.g. ticket stubs, medals etc.

My dad is at a similar stage and loves going out for coffee. It’s his birthday next month and I am going to bring him for afternoon tea. He also likes to walk around the garden and drown water the flowers so I am going to get him some containers and bedding plants for us to pot up together.

Some sort of subscription?

Thank you everyone for the suggestions. Love the photo book idea - I hadn't thought of that

There are also picture books on Amazon designed for people with dementia eg steam locomotives, trees, beaches, dogs, cats
