Anyone else on the long wait for an ambulance

My mother has lost all mobility.. I can't get her to the toilet anymore. (Pulled muscle in back last night doing this)

Told at 11am ambulance would be 2 hours. By 111. Told to call again if worse. She can't sit up.. so called 999. Now a 'priority' .. it's been 2.5 hours...

Anyone else in similar to have a moan with.

Not a NHS moan. Fully support NHS strikes. The systematic dismantling of the NHS by this government bears the sole responsibility for this.

What a worry for you and poor DM. I’m afraid to say the long ambulance wait might just be the beginning. Our local hospital had people waiting over 25 hours to be seen the other day and nearly 100 people waiting for beds so they could be admitted. It’s appalling, the government should be ashamed of themselves. So much pain and suffering with people having to wait. You wouldn’t leave an animal suffering for so long yet our loved ones are supposed to just wait, hour after hour, in pain.
So sorry, I hope they come soon and DM will be okay Flowers

Thank you so much. I am grateful she is not on the floor.. she was last night. I couldn't pick her up so had to put a blanket underneath her and drag her along the floor to the bedroom.. thank god for wooden floors !! (Could t face ambulance wait on NYE for elderly person.. would be weeks !! )

This in one of the worlds richest economies !! (Or was before Brexit)

So much of this (not all) but a not insignificant reason is bed blocking. There's a thread directly below yours from a family trying to arrange discharge from hospital of a family member who has no support in place, poor mobility and is Covid positive.
When you say she's lost all mobility - is this an acute/sudden thing? Is she ill/deteriorating? I ask as it may be you need to arrange respite or carers as opposed to admission.

But it really should be an NHS moan, even if you support the strikes. The system is falling apart due to years of underfunding and neglect by successive governments.
I really hope you get an ambulance soon.

A lady on here before Xmas waited from 10 AM to 3pm the next afternoon when her aunt fell and was immobilised

monicagellerbing · 01/01/2023 22:25

We waited 90 minutes today for an ambulance for my mum for a suspected heart attack. Luckily it wasn't in the end after hours in A&E

EmmaEmerald · 01/01/2023 22:39

So sorry OP

can anyone help you? You might have a long wait at A&E if you go with her.

Mum's had 2 x 18 hour waits in A&E this year for suspected heart attack (not) and stroke

They have arrived . Pumped full of morphine and taken her to hospital where my big bro is waiting for her arrival.. after 72 hours of full time care I am on my knees and in awe of those who do this EVERY day .. day in.. day out .. my first experience of what it is like to be a full time carer.. 72 hours.. pitiful .. for someone I love immensely and immeasurably.. I am truly shocked by the intensity ..

I work for DWP (in a very different department) and yet carers allowance NOT PAYABLE to those on a pension ??? It's beyond appalling and actually disgraceful.. I am below pension age .. doing this in ten years time is unfathomable

OP glad they're there

you must try to rest now, 72 hours doing that is hellish

re carers allowance, yes, if I end up caring for mum I'm not allowed to earn more than £130 a week.
