How long for will to pay out?

My DF is an only child and sole beneficiary of my granny's will. Granny died in the summer. My DF is in need of extra help and we've been thinking about starting to look at residential care for him but his inheritance (when it comes in) will make a big difference to where he could afford to live. Does anyone know how long it's likely to be before he receives the money? Solicitors have pretty much just said "it varies' which isn't particularly helpful! Thanks

It really does depend. Is there a house to be sold, for instance, or is there money in the bank waiting to be paid? If the latter, you're probably nearly there. If the former, well, how long is a piece of string?

(I'm still waiting after a year for house sale reasons...)

Has probate been granted? What is the inheritance (house cash shares etc).? Yes it will vary but the solicitors may need some encouragement to keep things moving quickly.

I was sold beneficiary of my mother's estate and it was a very simple one.
It took from June 20 to November 21.

Ours took nearly a year as there was a house, shares and bank accounts. His money wont be paid until all the debts and tax have been paid, her estate valued, the house valued.

I'm sorry, but it really does depend, and can take a while settling the debts out of the estate, funeral costs, then working out the values of the assets, getting grant of probate, sale of assets and then distributing in accordance to the will.

At full tilt it took me 6 months to sort out my mums very simple estate which was a house and a couple of bank accounts and two relatives on good terms.

Another relative it took 2 and a half years via a solicitor as farm land needed to be sold and 14 beneficiaries found (couldn't provide the funds until all means of tracking down beneficiaries were completed, bearing in mind some were just first name, last name and an address from 20 years ago!)

Thank you. Yes there is a house. But I assumed he would just inherit the house and then sell it? Estate isnt big enough for inheritance tax to come into it There won't be anyone to track down as it's just going to him.
Sounds like it really could still be a while though.

The house will need to be valued for probate by an estate agent and the debts and tax need to be paid , he can put the house on the market while probate goes through I think. Do you have any isea how much rhe house and the rest will be worth. Whats his situation at the moment, does he have his own property or assets to pay for care.

I submitted a probate December 2019 and it came through Feb 2020.
