Council Tax

Unsure where to put this so apologies...

My mum stays at my nan's house as and when needed to help her with gardening, appointments, shopping etc. it is sporadic and as and when needed. My sister lives with my mum. Nan gets single person discount on council tax.

This week a neighbour has suggested she may be reported as my mum's car is there a lot. She has now freaked out and sent my mum home.

Does anyone have any idea whether she is likely to get into trouble? The length of stay is sporadic as sometimes it's just shopping and other times she will have a medical flare up and my mum can be there 3 weeks.

Thanks all

Nothing to report. Your mum is entitled to stay at her Mum's to help her. Your mum must also be paying council tax at her own property?

She has nothing to worry about. Council tax is not like UC.

Yes, she's already paying at her house. Thanks for the answer, we can't find anything online. Likely because it is a non issue!

That’s not an issue - she is paying council tax at her registered home address

Thank you!

Your Mum can't be living at 2 homes so if she ever was reported, it should be pretty quick to sort out. Surely she's just just show them the copy of her Council Tax bill?

Yes quite. My Nan thinks it's like benefits where you need to be careful how many nights someone stays over

If your mum didnt have her own place then yes maybe your nan would lose her single person discount, but it's all.about "sole or main residency " with council tax. As your mum has her main residency elsewhere it is not an issue. What an aresehole neighbour your poor nan has!

I'd tell yhe neighbour in thsy case she had better be on call when your nan needs help next time she says something.

What a nosy, interfering cow the neighbour is. Your DM is fine to stay with your Nan as much as she likes. There are no rules like that around council tax.
