I'm out of the country.
MIL is getting the pump in today, she is 91, has been taken off all meds (heart, diuretics etc).

My BIL isn't forthcoming with information and DH doesnt know how long she has left. He was told not long
Is there any time frame for morphine pump?
We can't speak to palliative care.

We had this a few weeks ago with nan unfortunately. I assumed it meant a few days to a week but she passed within 24 hours. Hope you're all as ok as you can be.

Tigerstripes1 · 27/09/2022 16:51

It can vary but generally, days. I've worked in palliative care for years.

Runmybathforme · 27/09/2022 16:52

You can never predict a time line. I worked in palliative care for 20 yrs, and I soon learned that little old ladies are tough ! Be assured, the syringe driver ( or pump ) will keep her symptom free and ensure a peaceful death.

Thank you for being so honest and sharing your experience

I was expecting a few days at most but it was two weeks for my MIL.

Mischance · 27/09/2022 17:07

It is likely to be a very short period. Be thankful that she is being given appropriate care to ensure a peaceful passing.

My best friend passed away last year from cancer. He had the driver for about a week before he passed (very peacefully).

TawnyPippit · 27/09/2022 17:14

Very recent experience, 94 year old - it was 4 days, and a quiet and peaceful fade out. Best wishes.

feellikeanalien · 27/09/2022 17:19

DP died of cancer and had this for about two days before he died. It's a difficult time OPFlowers

For the elderly member in my family, 4 or 6 days.

StopDrivingIntoMyFence · 27/09/2022 17:33

It was less than 24 hours for my family member. We were told it could be up to a week after starting the syringe driver but it was much quicker. It was very comforting to know that he was peaceful and pain free.

MrJi · 27/09/2022 17:33

My Mum, three days.
It is really tough OP, I am so sorry.

ZekeZeke · 27/09/2022 17:44

I'm so very sorry for everyone that's had to go through this and thank you again for being so open and sharing your very personal experience.

She is/was an amazing woman and very loved.

Less than 48 hours for my DF. Although we sort of guessed it would be a very short time as they only supplied 48hrs worth of meds to him, but would not give the family a timeline. The driver gave him morphine and antianxiety meds which gave him a peaceful passing and he was pretty lucid until until about 30mins before he passed. Miss him dearly.

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 27/09/2022 19:13

With my dad it was less than 36 hours - they put the pump in on Sunday night and he died on Tuesday morning.

PiggyPlumPie · 27/09/2022 19:17

4 days for my Dad. 12 days in total on end of life care. But like others have said, peaceful.

Much love to you all.

caringcarer · 27/09/2022 19:19

My Mum had 8 days but my Auntie had less than 48 hours. If you want to see them alive again I suggest you drop everything and go to them before it is too late.

MadameCholetsDirtySecret · 27/09/2022 19:30

My dad was 3 days. It was a gentle death. I’m sorry about your MIL.

nokitchen · 27/09/2022 19:37

A day for dad. Recently about 4 days for a friend. It takes as long as it takes.

bluedomino · 27/09/2022 19:56

5 days. Unfortunately in complete agony despite it being increased everyday and stat dose. I hope your relative has a peaceful passing.

ZekeZeke · 02/10/2022 19:19

MIL passed away peacefully 4 days after the pump was put in.
