Please can someone tell me how funding for these beds work. I googled it and there is conflicting information.

I need to know who I need to call for finance situation.

The hospital didn't say and the care home told me the free 4 week covid funding care is ending.

I'm on the otherside, I work in a care home which accepts D2A beds. Its usually 6 weeks CHC funded while regular assessments take place, physio and rehab are pushed. Then the final assessment is where they make the decision of where the person should go. Either stay with the care home they are in if it suits their needs, move to a another care home or home with community care or home with no community support. Once the initial funding has finished, you are then financially assessed by social services to state how much you need to pay towards the care.

It causes so much distress to families but at the end of the day, care needs to be paid for. Assets can be sold such as houses. What outcome are you hoping for? Remain in the care home or home? It can make a huge financial difference and each has their positives and negatives.

Oh and if its home with a care package or move to another home and you are assessed has having to pay for care, you will have to fund from the end date of the funding until the transition which can take a while. For example I recently had a patient discharged home with care package, he stayed with us for 3 weeks whilst care package was arrange and had to self fund for the 3 weeks with us.

Ok thank you that helpful. We had been hoping for my mum to go home but she has been waiting for a bed for months which has made her deteriorate faster.

While we would like her to go home we know in our hearts that isnt realistically going to happen. She hasnt got capacity as well as other health concerns.

I think if it turns out she is happy there we should not uproot her elsewhere. Even though the care home is not local to us.

She will be self funding as has a home we will need to sell. But from a care perspective was having help with finance from the council for carers to go in before admission to hospital.
