My 87 year old father, who is in a nursing home, needs new hearing aids. His old ones, which were the tiny very expensive ones, have been lost at the home, and to be honest they were too fiddly for him to manage anyway - his fine motor skills have really deteriorated and he also has dementia. He really needs something large and with just one piece - as simple as possible. Is it best to contact the NHS to come and do a repeat assessment and fit him for new ones? Or should I go private? I have contacted his current private hearing aid centre but their 'one piece' hearing aids cost 2.5K and to be really honest, he just needs something basic now that will enable him to hear what people are saying to him.
He also needs them quickly and I suspect that the NHS wait time will be long. Does anyone have any advice?
