UTI or pessary failure?

My lovely DM (late eighties) has had a Gellhorn pessary in situ for a few years. It’s really helped her quality of life although she’s had a couple of issues (movement of it causing a bleed/discomfort that was treated but very distressing for her) and it’s refitted twice a year.

DM has a history of UTIs and has recently had a reoccurring one which has come back after antibiotics. With this, she’s also gone back to frequent incontinence. Several times a day she’s standing up and flooding which her pads/incontinence knickers can’t deal with 😞

Does anyone have any knowledge/experience that can help us please? I’m getting on to the GP (again) tomorrow and will take a sample. Could this be her pessary failing or just her uti? Or some combination of the two?

Thanks in advance.

My MIL has had a similar issue. Pessary (ring) fitted some years ago, and a series of UTIs which just keep coming back over and again despite ABs. The Dr now thinks that the pessary is causing it. She is due to have the pessary checked in a few months and they are apparently going to try and different type to see if this resolves the problem.
