Quick question that I’m hoping someone can answer - we’re trying to get my parents’ medical power of attorney sorted out, and they have completed most of the online forms. They thought they needed to get their GP to sign it as the independent person, but the form seems to suggest that anyone who is independent who has known them for at least two years could do this instead? Is that right? I didn’t find the guidance completely clear on this. Thanks in advance.

Yes you don’t need a GP to sign. A family friend who has known your parents for over 2 years is fine. This is what my parents did. They had no problems in getting their POAs granted.

No need for a GP, just someone who has known them for 2 years and can state they understand what they are doing, plus a witness.

I did my FIL as that counted as a distant enough relative.

Thank you both! That makes it much easier!
