DM 87, was ill yesterday - memory loss, doesn't know where she is, not making any sense, wandering the house. Found by a friend.

GP has taken bloods.

This has continued today. What do we do to seek help?

She has woken in the same state this morning, wandering, half dressed, fallen.

She lives alone 3 hours away. I've tested positive for COVID and can't help.
Our DS is with her overnight but really can't stay and isn't able to help her with toileting off anything.

What do we do...no idea. Tried an ambulance and 111 yesterday but no help.

Any advice really appreciated.

Could she have had a T.I.A. ( a mini stroke ) ?

Tatapie · 29/03/2022 10:58

Urine infection can cause delirium

Sunnyday321 · 29/03/2022 10:59

Will add I'm surprised contacting 999 and they wasn't interested . Did they even send out a paramedic / ambulance to check her out ?

Clockstooforward · 29/03/2022 10:59

TIA
UTI
Tell son to call ambulance.

nearlyspringyay · 29/03/2022 10:59

UTI? Get on to the GP and get her urine checked. She can't be left alone like that.

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 29/03/2022 10:59

I work for an NHS service which would go out and assess your Mum we are called the Urgent Care Response team - can you Google to see if there's one local to you? Maybe called Rapid Response in your area....If not get back onto your GP, I presume they ruled out a urine infection?

TeethingBabyHelp · 29/03/2022 11:00

Did GP test her urine for signs of infection? Urine infection often has these symptoms in elderly

Clockstooforward · 29/03/2022 11:00

Sorry I would call for ambulance again!

Tonya345 · 29/03/2022 11:03

You need to ring again for an ambulance, your mother shouldn't be left like that.

HanaABC · 29/03/2022 11:07

Thank you.

GP has said tests taken yesterday will be back at 4.00 and we have to ring back. They included testing for a urine infection.

COVID is also a possibility-she has a cough and sore throat.

I will read through the above and make other calls.

999! They have to make a welfare check!

HanaABC · 29/03/2022 12:57

Seemingly increasingly likely this is COVID related delirium. Her friend has tested positive-they we're out and about together at the weekend.

DS has been placed in an awful position, cleaning up his soiled DGM.
I'm to unwell to travel, but if we know she has COVID at least I can try and go as I will know I won't infect her.

Advice from the NHS support line mentioned above was to make an emergency response request to the GP.

This has been made and we awaiting that.

Thank you for your advice.
