Has she been seen by an audiologist?

I got mine free from an NHS audiology clinic that my GP referred me to.

Think that's where she got her present ones from but she waited years(literally) she would rather pay and get the done asap

Specsavers or Boots

If she already has some she should be able to phone audiology and get an appointment for review and get new ones

I got mine within a month through NHS. See GP to certify it’s not just wax, appt. at Specsavers, proper hearing test, and hearing aids handed out at the end. They’re all programmable now, so audiologist takes standard aid, programs it according to the results of the test, and that’s it

Ask GP. She already has hearing aids so should be in system to get these reassessed and replaced or not working or her hearing has changed.

Our local GPs/ccg have a contract with Specsavers hearing service who do our NHS hearing aids and they are excellent

Where does she order new hearing aid batteries from as I would contact them first to say there is a problem with her hearing aids. They will tell you what to do but if in doubt call her GP and make an appointment.

Please don't go private as my nhs ones are super. But it would have cost me just under £5k for these privately with only a two year warranty

There a difference from the long wait to get up see audiologist initially to be prescribed hearing aids at the start to the much quicker response when you already have prescribed hearing aids and in the audiology system.

Ikeptgoing · 10/03/2022 14:13

Since our local nhs hearing service went to Specsavers, (with hospital audiology for specialist issues) that initial process is MUCH faster

Ikeptgoing · 10/03/2022 14:23

Ps If I lose or break my nhs hearing aids they will charge me £65 to resolve them under Specsavers contract.

That's nothing compare to the £2k each hearing aid costs privately

I do hope you contact your mums GP as it should be simple and quick to get this resolved quickly as she is already in the system.

Ikeptgoing · 10/03/2022 14:24

£65 To replace them I meant if broken by accident. Not if they no longer work or wore out or aren't strong enough as hearing has changed

Thank you all. She's moved recently so I thought it would be difficult to go through the gp as the last ones were prescribed at the other side of the country. I will call them and see what the wait time would be
