My father is in his 90's and from being relatively independent he has suddenly become quite frail...looking at the costs involved with care how on earth do people manage the high costs? He is comfortable but not rich and his pension won't cover care and maintenance of his house and living costs. Any advice appreciated!

Contact AGEUK or his local advocacy service / carer's group or similar. If he's not already been assessed by the social work dept of his local council, do that now. It clarifies what pra tical help he needs and they can signpost to financial support that he may be entitled to. Good luck on this journey.

Also, has he granted POA to anyone (hopefully you)?

Mum has four visits a day. Private carer. It's about £500 a week

@GreenApples1977 my mum has Home Instead and she doesn’t pay £40 an hour. She pays £29 and that is a recent increase from £26. I know it’s a franchise so perhaps there can be some variation however that sounds incredibly high?
