Just that really.

I did one for my dad last year and that took about 9 weeks I think. Doing one for my mum and had to check cos it was taking so long - up to 20 weeks according to their website!

Something to think about if you're thinking of putting one in place for yourself or a loved one!

Thank you. We keep putting it off and need to get on with it.

My mums took 6 months last year....covid was given as the reason for the delay

CrimeJunkie01 · 09/11/2021 22:42

I applied in April. Still not been done, and they appear to have lost a form. It's an absolute shit show. Can't get through on the phone and they don't answer emails. Waste of public money.

We've been waiting since March to have DM's accounts checked. And we've had to pay them £1k. Slower than the DVLA,

Started process in Jan. Think it might be completed by December.

Don't delay if you are considering it

Just got our court '3 week wait' letter through. Been 5 months. We did pay someone to do it for us though.

Popping in here. Though my mother has now passed away I was one of the early arrivals on this board.

This is awful though recent experience with probate is that the public sector is in meltdown and everything is going incredibly slowly.

I already had the Court of Protection identified as the single most inefficient Government organisation. So it is more important that ever to sort out POAs in good time.

One interim step is to get the parent (etc) to sign a third party mandate on the main bank accounts. It only takes a week or so. This means that you can access the account if the worst happens whilst you are waiting. And that you can do internet banking etc on behalf of your parent.

I went one step further. My mother had Alzheimer's and was vulnerable to fraudsters. I/We set up a small immediate access savings account that had a debit card but did not allow overdrafts or standing orders, and gave the card to my mum whilst removing any traces of her main accounts from her flat. I could top up the small account on my phone to meet normal expenditue but she was no longer in a position to give her main bank details to phone fraudsters.

Yes they are taking months to come back from the OPG.

We do them at work for clients and some have taken six months to be returned. Also you get one back and have to wait weeks for the second one.

I have no insight as to why.
