Has anyone any experience with Vodafone SOS fall detector bands? (Or the Doro wrist button)

As title, Voda bands have mixed reviews on Amazon but sound like the perfect fix for my situation.
Doro I'm not certain if we both need the Doro phones as well as the wrist button....

Don't suppose anyone has used fall detectors and has any advice?

Thanks for reading.

I don't know about those devices or system, it sounds like a private set up. Have you thought about contacting the local authority adult services referral service or reading their info online on adults health and care / adults social care website. Often they use a telecare provider that has lots of telecare equipment including falls detectors and can work out with far more for your monthly cost. For eg argenti telecare provides to a number of local authorities - look up the range of telecare equipment they have! For £20/month

Hiya Where Thanks for that I will have a look, I didn't really consider the LA service based entirely on (fiercely independent) DDad insisting the Citywide Alarm once kicked down his mate Brian's door like a swat team, this was in 1989 too BlushGrin

Thinking about it they will have the latest tech, good shout.

Imaging a 1989 swat team now!
The police or ambulance would have forced a door only where they had good reason to believe someone was on the floor and in serious trouble - I.e. his mate Brian's alarm had gone off and no reply to the very loud speakers or to ambulance / police loudly banging and ringing in the door and no emergency contact (relatives) responding out of the 2 or 3 he will have and possibly the person calling out help help I'm on the floor / stuck in the Bath!

Quite often people get key-safe fitted outside somewhere discrete and give the lifeline monitor team the code so that emergency servives can get in for an emergency. It's very rare for a door to be forced.

We subscribe to Carelink Plus, as my husband suffers from seizures. He has a seizure sensor under his mattress, and a fall alarm which he wears round his neck while walking around the house and garden. If either of them go off, the centre calls and asks if he's ok. If there's no response they call one of our 2 nominated back-ups; and if there's no reply they send the paramedics. You do need a keysafe outside, so that they can get in (without breaking the door down!)

We have the Doro watch for my elderly father in law. It is pricey so we initially bought a cheaper version, but ended up buying the Doro watch. It is brilliant and you can see the difference between it and the cheaper version.
It has a panic button on it (which he has used) a fall alert which we have not tried yet, plus we can track him on it (with his permission) and call him on it (both of which have come in useful as he never carries his phone on him as he forgets it/ takes it with him but it is turned off).

The time the his friend rang us In a panic as she had gone round to check on him in the evening to find all the lights on, the Tesco shop unpacked on the floor and him missing was a great example. We were able to check where he was on the map and reassure us all that he was actually on his way back from the takeaway round the corner!!

It sounds like the door watch is good then, if it has a GPS on it as well as a lifeline alarm button. It's quite difficult to get GPS systems from LA telecare funded systems in a watch. Presently most GPS trackers are separate credit card heavy devices that have to be charged daily and then put into one coat pocket or handbag that the Person will likely take with them when they go out. I might look it up for our more prolific walking people with dementia.... Glad I read this thread now!

ikeptgoing · 24/10/2021 11:25

Credit card width but also bulky I meant

I found website but it doesn't say cost of equipment or ongoing monitoring . That's a lovely watch though, would be something a person would put in each day. It's how to ensure it is put into charge (each night?) that needs to become part of persons routine - a daily Alexa reminder at night set up?

I like the 480 watch too Ikept I can't find the price but I think it would be a goer for DDad, not tacky, bit of tech and doesn't shout 'Elderly' it passes as a smart watch.
A bit of research and I've found seven different local companies with varying levels of commitment and price all offering tech solutions so I'm trying to float that idea.... like a lead balloon

The legend of Brian looms large Grin
(For clarity, Brian was in his 40's at the time and had staggered back, paralytic, to his Mams flat, forgetting the swish new alarm system. No one mentions that he must have pissed on the couch because his Mam bought a new Chesterfield and Queen Anne chair about two weeks later. He's late 70's now with his bad hip and knee and back and heart...still falls out of Wetherspoons after Tuesday curry night special!)

I'm loving the "legend of Brian" story. Brian had a lot to answer. So he set off his mother's alarm and her door was broken down by police/ambulance who were concerned about older person inside?? So many things must have gone awry for that to have happened!

Whereismumhiding3 · 24/10/2021 14:46

@TheQueef
When you do get told the price of the Doro watch etc will you sssshhhh tell us ? It has to be deliberate that they don't have costs easy to find on the website

2chooze · 24/10/2021 22:17

This is the website we bought it from

www.techsilver.co.uk/product/dementia-tracker-gps-watch/?v=79cba1185463

The prices are on there. My father in law charges it every night just so it has become a habit (battery lasts longer than a day though). The charger is really easy to use.

As mentioned we balked at that price initially, and found a cheaper one that was about £100 up front and £7 a month but it was really poor quality, impossible to charge (even for us, never mind an elderly person) so we sent it back and got the Doro
