My mum has alzeimers and some days is good other days she's massively distressed with pain in her bowels . She's had a colonoscopy and a private consultation at spire and it shows small piles and very slight diverticulitis they say the piles are too small to operate on. She has lots of fruit and liquid is it possible the pain is imaginary or shall we go for another consultation. We are at our wits end .

My mum is the same - she constantly complains of being bloated and has some difficulty with the loo. Apparently constipation that presents as explosive diarrhoea is associated with Alzheimer's, which we didn't realise at first and thought it was just diarrhoea so tried all sorts of binding foods and made things worse.

my mum is similar and has alzheimers. I didnt realise thus was a thing she seems to be alternating between constipation and diarrhoea which we thought was because we were giving her laxido to combat constipation. I'm not sure quite what to do now she has already had to have enema from district nurse and when she is frail with mobility issues she then has an accident even with pull up on

My mum had a course of laxatives for a few weeks that meant she had to stay indoors, but she has been much better since it has cleared. The accidents were really getting her down prior to that.

The Alzheimer's specialist nurse was really, really helpful about this issue - if you have access to that support, ask them rather than the doctor as she seemed to be the only one who really got it, knew the course of treatment and advocated to get it sorted rather than giving very general dietary advice.
