Ddad weeing blood

Really worried about my dad. He started passing blood in his urine on Saturday. Went to hospital yesterday where they took bloods and did a scan but no results back for either yet. He has no other symptoms. Has been admitted but no-one can visit as he was exposed to COVID in A and E 🙄 I was thinking kidney infection but my mum seems to think it's something more serious. Can't stop thinking the worst! Anyone got any experience of what might be the problem? Thanks

I've had blood in urine when cystitis became a kidney infection. Depends how much blood I guess. Hope you have a more definitive answer soon x

Keep an eye on it . My dad was weeing blood til it became like ketchup and kept it to himself . Then he got covid and in hospital the tests showed he had bladder cancer .
It doesn’t always mean the worse tho .

Accidentgirlfriend · 10/08/2021 20:23

Please encourage him to get an answer because some men , like my Dad , put it off . It could be something simple . All the best :)

Could be a prostate issue, ok could be prostate cancer - Im not a medic just a daughter whose father had this problem. That said if dealt with many elderly men live with it and eventually die with it not because of it. My dad lived a good ten years after treatment and when his time came it was something completely different and not cancer that he died from. Waiting for the results his hard but remember most things can be treated, if not cured.

I had a relative who had similar recently. It was just a urine infection. Was prescribed antibiotics and ok now. I hope it turns out to be the same for your dad OP Thanks

This happened to me and my dad. Both had kidney stones which were easily treated

Wombat64 · 10/08/2021 21:00

Relative with kidney stones has those symptoms.

DaphneduM · 10/08/2021 21:02

My dad had this. It turned out to be polyps on his bladder - they were lasered off about every six months as a day patient. He was absolutely fine and lived to the age of 90!

whoami24601 · 10/08/2021 21:17

Oh the idea of kidney stones has cheered me up - the dog had an operation for these last week so that would be a funny coincidence!

Someone I know's husband started seeing blood. They were both terrified but it turned out to be a benign tumour in the bladder. Simple op to remove it, and absolutely fine now.

I can 100% understand why you'd be worried, and I'm giving you both a MASSIVE HUG, but there are lots of other reasons for weeing blood than just that one, terrifying, disease.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

DFIL had this. Turned out to be a massive infection. Sometimes older men have problems with their prostrates which affects weeing and they drink less water not more leading to infections. DFIL was treated for the infection in hospital and got over it pretty quickly.

A DU had blood in his wee and he does have bladder cancer but 5 years in it's still just contained in his bladder and not really progressing.

Hope your DF has the former Thanks

I usually have visible blood in the urine with cystitis (without any kidney infection)

whoami24601 · 11/08/2021 08:40

He has had prostrate problems in the past so 🤞 it's something like that! We're meant to be going on holiday next weekend as well 🙄

FIL often gets blood in his urine. Seems to be his "thing". So far it has been urine infections (many times), kidney stones (a couple of times) and pressure from his prostate. Every time he convinces himself it is kidney/bladder cancer and hides it until he has worked himself into a complete state. He does have prostate cancer but it has responded well to treatment and he is likely to die with it rather than of it.

whoami24601 · 12/08/2021 10:16

Well good news (I think!) They've scanned his bladder and his kidneys/liver and seen nothing concerning so he'll be discharged tomorrow with further tests to be done through outpatients. His prostrate is slightly enlarged so will get medication for that. Thanks all for keeping me sane!
