Has anyone any experience of using a Molift? My 85 year old father has been advised by the hospital discharge team to get one to help with caring for my 82 year old mother who is currently in physio rehab but still unable to stand. Does this sound like a good idea? I am concerned it’s being suggested in lieu of sufficient actual help.

If she can't stand how can she use one?

MrsWobble3 · 05/08/2021 16:52

Don’t know - assume they think she’ll be able to at discharge. I’m not able to speak to the doctor (next of kin only) so rely on what my dad hears and passes on. It’s a very good question though and I’ll get him to ask. Thanks for the reply, it’s prompted an important question.

Also she needs an OT assessment as equipment like this can be provided by the council.

Ask your dad to add your name and you will be able to discuss things with the hospital- I've just had to do the same. You could ask for a zoom meeting with the OT.

Can you tell I'm going through the same? HmmSad

Difficult, isn't it? Flowers

Thanks again. I’ve tried speaking to the rehab hospital but they’ve been strictly next of kin only so far. The medical hospital where she was before was much easier to deal with. I will try again though. And huge sympathy and 💐 for you too.

Thank you Smile
I would escalate it and ask to speak to 'someone who can make it happen.' Just be firm about it. I've had to do it a lot, once you get to speak to the right person it doesn't seem to be a problem.

The molift is a really good bit of kit
It would be put in place to help him ( or a carer) to help her to stand and transfer safely
OT would need to assess and show how it would be used
It should be provided - he will not need to buy it

Thank you. I’ll make sure he asks for/gets training on how to use it - and that it gets supplied for him.

Agree, anything for discharge will be ordered by OT and if he plans to provide the care himself rather than have carers, he will be shown how. Mo lift will only get someone from A- B when side by side like bed to chair. Was she walking prior to admission. ?

Is he safe to be moving her in it? Will there be a care package in place when she leaves ,it sounds like there should be one.
