Inpatient rehab physio - how to find it?

My 82 year old mother fell and broke her hip in March. She has subsequently had two hospital re-admissions and is now finally deemed medically fit for discharge. But as a result of lengthy hospital stays she has lost all mobility and is being referred for inpatient physio rehab. Unfortunately beds are very rare and she may be sent several hours away making it very difficult for my 85 year old father to visit. Are there any alternatives? They have money to pay for private care but I’ve been told it needs the intensity of inpatient care and Googling hasn’t come up with any private hospital solutions. What should I be looking for here. If anyone has any advice I’d really welcome it.

Whereabouts do they live, there are private residential rehab hospitals on Google search. Realistically I wonder how much physio she would be getting in a rehab unit anyway, you can ask how much time they spend with her. Could she go home with equipment, carers and a private physio coming in daily.

I'm sorry but I would be very cynical about intensive inpatient physio. My MIL had about 20 to 30 minutes a day for five days a week after a hip replacement on a specialist rehab ward. I'm sure you could get a chartered physio to visit at home. Oh and she also was allowed to fallover backwards in the rehab ward.

Can she have NHS community physio at home, does she have a careplan and had a full assessment of her current needs what goals she will achieve and what peogress they think she will realistically make. I wonder why she is now immobile if she has been receiving intensive rehab, why isn't she able to walk,

Thank you all. Your questions are all very valid. I am sceptical about what will be offered but the doctor was pretty clear that physio at home was not a substitute.

Dogs - what search terms should I be using - I haven’t found anything when googling. All the physio seems to be geared at recovery from surgery or sports injuries and I’m not sure either of those is right. And the only inpatient stuff is the NHS.

And she recovered mobility after the operation - it’s just the month in hospital since with an infection and no physio provision has set her right back. I’m not expecting miracles but if she can get enough back to be able to go to the loo independently that would improve her life significantly.

Most of the private in-patient rehabilitation facilities are more aimed at neurological conditions such as strokes and spinal injuries. It seems odd they are insisting she needs in-patient physio when on the NHS she surely wouldn’t get that much time with a physio each day?

Not sure where you are in the country but I’m aware of this facility which is in Guildford. I don’t think these places come cheap!

Maybe try searching for convalescence care in your area? Bupa have some info here www.bupa.co.uk/care-services/what-type-of-care-do-i-need/post-operation-and-illness-recovery

Try googling domiciliary physio, or home visits. Would she be safe to go home now, when her mobility is restricted?

If they did send her miles away, how long would it be for and would your DF be able to FaceTime her, maybe with a bit of help?
