Best landline phone for hard of hearing/dementia

DM is very hard of hearing (wears two hearing aids) and has just been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.

We’ve not long replaced her phone with one that is supposed to be hearing aid compatible but it’s the handset volume is really not loud enough even on max volume. It also needs to be easy to put on speaker phone (ie have a separate button for it, not one that she has to press twice or anything complicated..

Can anyone recommend anything?

Thanks.

MIL has the same problem and luckily her mobile phone that she has had for some time (so she remembers how to use it) is loud enough for her. It is a basic Asda mobile, off the shelf.

If you get anything new she may not be able to use it. We bought a new cordless landline at the start of MIL's journey (alzheimers and vascular dementia) and within a couple of months she was trying to change the TV channel with it.

It needs to be a landline not a mobile but I will look at that anyway, thanks.

Sorry, pressed enter too soon. I think as long as it is simple she will be ok. She can use the phone now - she is used to a cordless- but the volume is not sufficient. The loudspeaker is a nice to have really.

I was going to say exactly what Beyond said Smile. I'm often being called round to sort out the home phone and when I get there find mum is having problems dialling my number because it's the tv remote.

Have a look at Doro phones.

You are going to want big buttons, numbers programmed in and call screening for protection from scammers.

Ha yes! I do recognise the issue with the remote/phone. Made worse because she has two remotes - the Virgin remote won’t change the TV volume.

Thanks @AnnaMagnani, Just looking them up.

We had to change the central heating controller recently because the old one was 40 years old and not working very well - we’ve not heard the end of how difficult it is for her although she doesn’t really need to touch it. Which is understandable I know. I have been told to try not to change anything but it’s not always possible is it?

Dad liked the BT Big Button phone, but if you google Big Button phone there's lots of possibilities.

I've just bought M one through RNID that has a huge decibel capacity. M hasn't got dementia though.

Put the landlines into 'hands free mode" they may be able to hear it better
