What to expect after fall

My MIL is 92 and lives alone just 2 minutes away from us. She has a carer each morning to help her wash and dress, make the bed etc. Then once a week also an evening call to give her a bath.

She fell indoors this weekend and ended up being admitted. Luckily nothing broken and no head injury but her chest wall and back are badly bruised and she's not very mobile, not at all mobile without help.

We are waiting to hear from physio/OT who were due to assess her this morning.

I am unsure what to expect in terms of when they will consider her fit for discharge. If she is unable to get out of bed for instance to go to the loo, will they discharge her home? Do we need to start thinking about having someone stay with her?

I know it's all a bit of an unknown, just wondered if anyone had any experience of this kind of thing?

Sorry to hear this. There should be a discharge coordinator who can arrange extra care if needed and ot can arrange equipment such as walking frame/ toilet frame etc. In a lot of places there is often uk to 6 weeks care funded.
Also referral to the falls team who can sort physio etc at home.
Good news there are no breaks.

Thanks @thesandwich. It’s so difficult with visiting being so limited. I have tried to speak to the physio or OT today but they are flat out on a full care of the elderly unit.

I think it’s going to be a while before she’s discharged anyway. She can’t get up from the chair without help so a way to go yet.

Mum had to be able to stand from a chair, get into and out of bed and climb some stairs (I don't know how many) before she was considered fit for discharge.
