Anyone know how much overnight care costs?

My Dad is normally there for my Mum over night but he is in hospital at the moment. My sister wants me to stay over in case of falls or problems over night but it means taking my toddler and it’s not sustainable.

Contact Elderly Social care, there should be a number on your Local Authority website. They can organise emergency support for your DM whilst your DF is in hospital.

They can only arrange emergency respite care in a care home which my Mum won’t agree to. I was looking for the cost of private carer.

I think when we looked at it for my Mum, it was around £18 an hour for overnight and council wouldn’t pay and we couldn’t afford it, so you went into residential respite

You need to ring around different care agencies in your area because they do charge very differently for night time calls and whether it is a sleeping night or a waking night.

If you look on the Care Quality Commission's website you can find care agencies in your area and speak to them.

For my dad was £26 ph which was sleeping overnight and listening out if he needed help. For active duties would be more if think

My friends are organising this for their DM/MIL costs about £900 per week here in Scotland.

I have had to organise this for my father recently. The price depends on how much they actually sleep, so whether the carer is just on call (and can get some sleep themselves) or is needed all the time. The agency we use charges £150-£160 for a 'sleeping night' and £28/hour for a waking night, so around £250 for 9 hours.

Around here, 10-7 is about £150.

Thanks. It would be just putting Mum to bed and then being there (upstairs in the life conversion in case they hear her fall over night) and giving her breakfast in the morning.

Your county council should have some advice/ contact details on their website

We had very good results from https://www.country-cousins.co.uk

They are an agency so their fees are on top of the person who lives in. They are very helpful and will be able to provide up to date costs.

Good luck

Is she likely to fall, it might be worth having a falls assessment, pressure and falls alarm, one lone carer might ask for this to look after someone who is at risk of falls and may be advised not to get someone up on their own. Is mum able to get to the loo on her own overnight.
